The question
Task
Describe a time when you helped a friend learn a new skill. What skill did you teach them, why did they want to learn it, and how did you guide them through the process?
Sample answer
I vividly recall a time last summer when I helped my good friend, Sarah, learn the fundamentals of using her new DSLR camera. She had just bought it for an upcoming trip and felt overwhelmed by all the settings, eager to move beyond auto mode. We spent an afternoon at a local park, and I began by demystifying concepts like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, using simple analogies. I then guided her through practical exercises, demonstrating how to compose a shot and manipulate light. Initially, she struggled with the manual controls, but I patiently encouraged her to experiment, explaining the reasoning behind each adjustment. By the end of the session, her confidence had visibly blossomed, and she was actively thinking about her compositions. Witnessing her enthusiasm grow as she took intentional photographs was incredibly rewarding.
