PTE score calculator
Your PTE Academic overall score is close to the average of your four skill scores (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing), each on a 10–90 scale. Pearson works the official overall out from every item in the test, so it can differ from the average by a point or two.
Enter all four skill scores to see your estimated overall and how far each skill is from 65.
How it works
- 1
Enter the four skill scores from your score report or a practice test.
- 2
Pick the target you need, such as 65 or 79.
- 3
The calculator averages the skills for an estimated overall and shows how many points each skill is short of the target.
Worked example
Listening 72, Reading 68, Speaking 81 and Writing 70 average 72.75, so the estimated overall is 73. For a target of 79 in every skill, Listening needs 7 more points, Reading 11 and Writing 9; Speaking is already there.

Questions
Is the PTE overall score the average of the four skills?
Not exactly. It's calculated from your performance on every question, and many questions count towards two skills. The average of the four skill scores is usually within a point or two of it.
Why do some questions count twice?
Integrated questions test two skills at once. Read Aloud adds to both Speaking and Reading, and Write From Dictation adds to both Listening and Writing, which is why they have such a big effect.
What is a good PTE score?
It depends on your goal. Universities often ask for 58 to 65 overall, and many skilled-migration routes reward 79 or more in every skill. Check the exact requirement with the organisation you're applying to.
