Linking words are highlighted: they show the structure a rater follows.

I strongly disagree with government censorship of online hate speech. While protecting public safety is vital, this method fundamentally threatens democratic principles and free expression. Firstly, it directly infringes on free speech. Empowering governments to define what constitutes hate speech carries a severe risk of suppressing legitimate political dissent. For instance, ruling parties might abuse this broad power to silence critics and political opponents, ultimately eroding democratic accountability. Secondly, online censorship is often completely ineffective in practice. Simply banning offensive content rarely eliminates harmful ideologies; instead, it merely drives extremist groups underground onto encrypted platforms, making monitoring by authorities much more difficult. A much better strategy promotes digital literacy, critical thinking, and counter-narratives at the source. While I certainly acknowledge the profound psychological harm that hate speech causes to individuals and communities, state-imposed censorship remains a blunt instrument with significant civil liberties risks. Ultimately, combating online hate speech effectively requires comprehensive public education, increased social media platform responsibility, and long-term societal resilience, rather than dangerous governmental overreach.
