5 CELPIP Speaking Task 3: Describing a Scene tips

You describe a picture to someone who can't see it.

Tips

  1. 1

    Start with an overview

Say where it is and what's generally happening before the details.

  2. 2

Move through the picture in order

Foreground, middle, background, or left to right.

  3. 3

    Use the present continuous

Is walking, are playing, is holding.

  4. 4

    Add colours and sizes

A small brown dog is clearer than a dog.

  5. 5

    Don't predict yet

Task 3 is description; save predictions for Task 4.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing objects without saying where they are.
