PTE Summarize Written Text template

You read a passage and write a one-sentence summary of it.

The template

One sentence, three ideas: the main idea, a key detail and the result, joined so the grammar holds.

  1. 1Main idea of the passage, linker: while / because / as key supporting point, linker: which / so result or conclusion.

Worked example

A passage on remote work: productivity often rises, but isolation and blurred work–home boundaries can harm wellbeing, so companies are trying hybrid models.

Remote work can raise productivity, while isolation and blurred boundaries between work and home may harm wellbeing, which is why many companies are now adopting hybrid models.

Why it works

  • Write exactly one sentence ending in a full stop; a second sentence scores zero for form.
  • Stay within 5 to 75 words; aim for 30 to 50.
  • Paraphrase where you can, but correct grammar matters more than avoiding copied words.
