5 PTE Describe Image tips
You see a chart, graph, map, process or picture and describe it in detail. A clear template lets you speak without stopping.
Tips
- 1
Spend preparation time on three things
The title, the highest and lowest values, and the overall trend. Ignore the rest.
- 2
Round numbers
Say “about forty percent” instead of “thirty-nine point eight percent”. Rounded numbers are accepted and keep you fluent.
- 3
Use one comparison word per sentence
By contrast, whereas and meanwhile make your description sound organised.
Online videos are the most popular, whereas study groups are the least.
- 4
Never stop before the end
If you run out of details, add a conclusion. Silence at the end isn't penalised, but stopping halfway through a sentence is.
- 5
Practise five image types
Bar, line, pie, table and process. Maps and pictures follow the same template with location words.
Mistakes to avoid
- Trying to read out every number and pausing to do it.
- Stopping early instead of filling the speaking time with a conclusion.
